Fatal accidents on Bombay's suburban railway lines last year:
Central Railway: 3937 deaths in 2006/2007
Western Railway: 612 deaths in 2006/2007
CR told a Mumbai court that the high number was down to "tremendous increase in Mumbai's population to people's lack of law abided ness and the influence of movies". There you have it.
